OUR STORYAt the ShoreThe first encounter
Supposedly, (as Kim recalls) I walked back and forth in front of Kim at Joe Pops bar and did not even give her a glance. (As I recall) Eventually, after much deliberation and nervousness, I pulled up a stool at the bar to watch the band next to an amazingly beautiful girl. Kim beat me to the chase and she broke the ice and said hello. From there it becomes very confusing because I was on cloud nine for the rest of the night.
The Meeting
Asking permission
"Hello Mr. Lynch...So (pause) can I meet you for breakfast this weekend?" "Sure Brendan what's on your mind?" "Well, I think you and I need to have a serious talk... you know what I mean right?" "Sure, no problem Brendan." I thought I was being sneaky by asking Mr. Lynch out to breakfast while Kim was away because I had to make a three-hour trip to the restaurant to make it happen. During the questioning process, I did not eat much that morning. Towards the end of the meeting, a stern faced Mr. Lynch (He is never stern) handed me a consent-to-marry form for Kim. I was sweating bullets reading it over until I looked up and Mr. Lynch was almost falling off his chair in laughter. I got the go ahead with a handshake and it has been smooth sailing since.
Down on a Knee
She said YES
The entire football game at West Point was torture. The ring in my pocket was burning a whole in my pants. "I hear there is a tailgate down by Trophy Point, " I said to Kim. (There was no tailgate, but the view from Trophy Point was amazing in the fall. In addition, it was where we went on our first date at West Point.) So, Kim and I strolled down to the overlook while I kept saying "just a little further the tailgate is probably over there." While Kim's back was to me, I pulled the ring out from my sock and jumped down onto one knee. She turned around and I asked her if I could share the rest of my life with her. She said yes!
