THE PROPOSAL
WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED January 22, 2006 HOW IT HAPPENED Our parents were meeting for the first time, in Jacksonville FL, the day we got engaged. My parents were already in Orlando for a few days, so it seemed like the perfect time for them to meet. I flew into Orlando to ride with my parents to Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon. Scotty and his parents had invited several people to come over that day (not unusual... Scotty's mom loves to entertain). My parents, sister & I arrived... everyone started eating lunch. I was sitting in the dining room & Scotty came in asking if I wanted to take pictures of our friends that were leaving for a boat ride. I thought the idea was a little strange coming from Scotty, but said "sure." He and I headed out to the dock (the place where we had our very first kiss)... he had his arm around me, with an unusually tight grip around my shoulder! About 10 of our friends were on the boat, maybe 100 feet from the dock, and several others were on the back patio facing the dock. Scotty asked if I remembered the night we had our first kiss... then we sat down on the dock & started talking about other things. He paused, took some deep breaths, and pulled tissues out of his pocket "you might need these... or maybe I will." With tears in his eyes (the first I had seen in over 2 1/2 years of dating!), he said he wanted me to be the last person he saw before he closed his eyes at night and the first person he saw every morning for the rest of his life. Then he got on one knee and asked me to be his wife!!! Of course I said yes-- I had been dreaming of that moment for quite some time. :) We stood up, hugged & kissed.... fireworks were going off from the boat & everyone was cheering. There were around 40 people there... about 5 knew he planned to propose prior to that day, and maybe 15 knew before the fireworks started going off. Scotty had asked my Dad for his blessing. He also let my sister in on the plan, which was so special to her. My Mom and his parents had no idea he was planning to propose that day! It was wonderful because we were able to have our private moment on the dock together, while having so many friends and family there to witness it. AND, Adam got in all on video from the boat! It was perfect... Scotty put so much thought and preparation into the entire day... a proposal right out of a girl's daydream.
